Sometimes there is a taste you absolutely love that you have to learn the recipe.
I was given a banana cake with brown butter frosting. Initially I thought the frosting had brown sugar in it, but the friend who made it said, “No, it is just butter and powdered sugar”. So, of course I had to find out how to make it.
The secret to this unique nutty autumn flavored frosting is getting your butter to brown (not burn). You need to continually stir the butter while over heat until you see the browning of the butter.

Brown Butter Frosting (printable recipe below)
You Need:
1/2 Cup butter (1stick)
2 Cups powdered sugar
1/8 Cup milk
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Cook the butter on medium heat until it is browned. It will look a brown auburn color. Pour it into a bowl and refrigerate until chilled.
Using a beater, mix until fluffy. Slowly add the powdered sugar, milk and vanilla.
Pumpkin Cupcakes:
1 Box Spice Cake Mix
1 15 oz. Can 100% Pure Pumpkin
Mix well. Spoon into cupcake liners. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Cool before frosting.
