As a single mom, I have had to learn a lot of “man” stuff, especially with cars. I know how to change my oil, change a tire, put snow chains on (even when it’s snowing), and general maintenance. Recently I purchased a 2015 Toyota Prius and heard how awesome the car is, except the computer logistics. So when my “Maintenance Required” light came on just weeks after an oil change, I said, “no way am I going to take this car into the Toyota dealer or mechanic”. I knew this was just a routine computer reminder, but I also knew my car was in great shape.
The most frustrating part is when the light goes on in the control panel, you can’t see anything else until it’s fixed. So unfair!
I set out to find how to turn this light off without seeking mechanic help. And I did. So here it is for all you Prius owners. Let’s save hundreds of dollars and do it ourselves.
How to Turn Off the Maintenance Required Light
Step ONE: Make sure your car is in good running order with recent oil change. I would hate to give you this secret and there was something REALLY wrong with your car.
Step TWO: Turn the car on.
Step THREE: Locate your TRIP button (mine is on my steering wheel) and while looking at the control panel, PRESS the TRIP button till it says TRIP A. Then take your finger off button and leave in TRIP A.
Step FOUR: Now find the MPH/km/h button. Mine is to the left of control panel and to the top right of the steering wheel. It’s a small button and can be hard to find, especially since we never use it. PRESS this button until it reads KM/H on the Control Panel instead of MPH for speed. Since you are parked, there should be a 0 next to it.
Step FIVE: While pressing this KM/H button, PRESS the POWER button and the car will turn off.
Step SIX: Now while pressing MPH/KM/H button AND the POWER button with your foot on the BRAKE, the car will start again. You will see the Maintenance Required disappear.
Hope this helps. Happy safe driving and YAY for saving gas!!!
