Little girls love mermaids. I think it spun from the “Little Mermaid” movie and has become as popular as unicorns and princesses.
This mermaid cake is full of whimsy and color. I created it for my friends daughter Madison.
Using fondant to make the mermaid tail (I needed to dry it for a few days), along with the fondant algae.
The sea shells I made with a candy form, using a variety of candy melt colors.
Watch how I created the cake. I hope you are inspired to make one too.
The things you will need:
- Baked, cooled and frosted cake
- Fondant (any color)
- Tylose (a drying agent for the tail) – mix in with the fondant (about a tablespoon of 1/2 cup fondant
- Candy melts (any color)
- Sea shell candy form
- Bamboo sticks or chop sticks
- Buttercream (we used blue and pink)
- Spatula
- Cake plate
